How to use

Setting things up

Feathertail will turn on automatically when it’s charged. Then just connect the USB dongle and wait a few seconds. You can now use the mouse!

Adjusting sensitivity

You can adjust the sensitivity of the device directly in Windows. For example, by typing “mouse settings” in the windows search bar. Or open Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse >> Pointer Options.

Turning on “Enhance pointer precision” option could make Feathertail feel more responsive.

You can find this setting at Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse -> Pointer Options. Normally, the only thing that controls the distance your mouse cursor moves is how far you physically move your mouse. Enhance pointer precision is a type of mouse acceleration. When enabled, Windows monitors how fast you move your mouse and adjusts your sensitivity on the fly.

Clicking

Dwell to click

You can click the mouse using voice dictation, dwell to click, or a separate button. With dwell-to-click software you can perform mouse actions without pressing any buttons. After you select a dwell action, you rest, or dwell, for a set amount of time (called the dwell time) on the item that you want to click, drag or scroll, before the action is performed. Our 2 favourite applications are described below.

Point-n-click (free) sports a UI, which like it was made in the time of the floppy disk. However, it has a wide breadth of functionality and tremendous customisability. Video tutorial on the right.

As a sleeker alternative, Dwell clicker (freemium) can also get the job done. It’s easy to set up, but not quite as flexible.

Speech recognition

Speech recognition software is an excellent way to issue mouse action commands for day to day tasks, using only your voice. Our 2 favourite applications are described below.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking (paid) although expensive, is a reasonable choice if you require dictation and text editing capabilities as well. There are lots of tutorials online for how to make the most of the software. Our video on the right focuses just on mouse clicking.

VoiceAttack (freemium) is more limited in functionality, but easy to set up and quite flexible. Video tutorial on the right.

Physical clickers

There are various physical clickers on the market, which can be used to perform mouse clicking functionality. For example, single action buttons, foot pedals, or multifunctional joysticks.
